  • Sunflowers are largely planted for garden asthetics - being a uniquely large member of the daisy family. However they are also often harvested for their edible seeds.
  • Sunflowers bloom in August through September
  • Most of the sunflowers are kept in the garden for beauty. A few are harvested for flower boquets sold at the farmers market.
  • Pole Beans: Harvest Season in Our Garden/How We Use It

    • This legume and its edible seeds will be ready to be harvested from July through October, depending on what stage you want to pick them at.
    • The pole beans are mostly sent to the dining halls, if dining cannot use them they will be sent to Amherst Survival Center.
